Legal Technician (Temporary, 8 months)

As a Legal Technician at SOQUIJ, your responsibilities include:

  • Receiving judgments from judicial courts, verifying them, and preparing them for dissemination.
  • Gathering doctrinal articles from various sources, verifying them, and preparing them for dissemination.
  • Analyzing the scope of all received corrective or amended judgments and electronically merging them with the judgments they rectify or substituting them for the original judgment.
  • Performing or verifying redactions of decisions while ensuring compliance with applicable rules.
  • Acting as a point of contact for organizations, decision-makers, clerks, or judge's assistants to answer their questions and request information when needed.
  • Verifying, analyzing, and completing information regarding previous instances of decisions and their earlier references.
  • Creating, updating, and verifying the history of decisions published by SOQUIJ.
  • Verifying the accuracy of all references, citations, and excerpts of case law, doctrine, and legislation in judgments.
  • Monitoring provincial and federal legislation as well as new doctrinal publications.
  • Updating documentary authority databases and documentary rules.
  • Verifying the integrity of Express and addressing any non-compliance issues.
  • Ensuring the formatting compliance of translated judgments before dissemination.
  • Preparing, transforming, and sending electronic files of selected decisions for publication in Express.

Qualifications:

  • DEC in legal techniques.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in similar roles.
  • Practical experience with the Star database or any content management system (an asset).
  • Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Understanding of legal documentation rules.
  • Familiarity with legal research methodologies.
  • Knowledge of various decision-making bodies.
  • Demonstrated precision and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Strong organizational and responsibility skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
